NIBC arranges very first Climate Bond Certified Green Loan for MEP Werke and Delta Lloyd Asset ManagementPress Release -
NIBC is proud to announce that it successfully arranged Europe’s very first Climate Bond Certified 20 year green loan for German client MEP Werke and Dutch investor Delta Lloyd Asset Management. A deal that once again underlines the bank’s entrepreneurial spirit and inventive business approach. The EUR 30 million fixed rate loan was the first tranche issued under MEP Werke’s Green Financing Programme and is secured by a highly granular portfolio of MEP residential solar lease receivables. This innovative transaction meets the Climate Bonds Standards v2.0 and is Climate Bond Certified by the Climate Bonds Initiative (CBI). MEP Werke is the first to offer institutional investors a long-term participation in MEP Werke´s business model and Germany’s energy transition through a transparent and sustainable green financing programme structured as green bond or loan.
MEP Werke is the biggest subsidiary of Strasser Capital, and is headquartered in Munich, Germany. It is one of Germany’s leading decentralised energy providers as well as market leader in end-to-end service for photovoltaics and specialises in leasing solar power systems to German residential homeowners at a fixed monthly rate. The parent company and private equity investor Strasser Capital specialises in clean energy investments and financing solutions throughout the EU, with a focus on solar energy. Together with NIBC, MEP and Strasser Capital developed and structured the innovative Green Financing Programme. In addition, following the successful conclusion of the transaction with Delta Lloyd Asset Management, NIBC has also granted MEP Werke a new senior loan warehouse facility to enable the company to issue a second tranche under the Green Financing Programme in future.
The issuance of the first tranche under the programme allows MEP Werke to refinance existing sources of debt capital and supports the company’s growth strategy going forward. For Delta Lloyd Asset Management, the Green Financing Programme offers an attractive long-term and sustainable investment for its Private Debt Fund.
